Speech Day at Huntley-May Grammar was a solemn occasion.

On the platform were the local dignitaries, Governors, and distinguished former pupil ready to present prizes.

The headmaster hoped nothing could go wrong; his staff ringed the Assembly Hall to check any whispering or too obvious sleep.

And also present was the poison-pen letter writer whose activities would shortly lead to violence  - and death.
